Megan

Tuesday: Pound

I fell back into fitness nine years ago after welcoming twins. On a whim I took a group exercise class and loved it. I decided to take it a step further and become a certified Group Exercise Instructor, learning formats from R.I.P.P.E.D to Tabata to POUND. I loved it so much, I decided to pursue Wellness as a career. I graduated from Oakland Community College with a degree in Exercise Science and I’m currently pursuing my Bachelor’s from Oakland University in Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention.

In addition to teaching fitness classes at SLPR, I’m also a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist, as well as a Certified Health Coach at Genesys Athletic Club. I believe that in order to lead a fit lifestyle one has to eat healthy and well balanced, focus of making exercise fun and meaningful and practice Wellness in all areas of life.

Tuesday: 30 Minute Abs
Wednesday: Pilates with Props
Thursday: Pilates with the Stability Ball

It was twelve years ago when I discovered Pilates and every time I do it I’m reminded why I love it! It’s the workout my body really responds to. It makes me stronger and keeps my spine aligned. Pilates will improve posture and flexibility while strengthening the core. In my Tuesday and Wednesday classes we use an array of props to add variety to the workout that will target specific muscle groups. Thursday we use the stability ball and weights to focus on balance, core strength, and the muscles of the back.

While at Genesys Athletic Club, I taught a Pilates workshop for golfers and was inspired by how those exercises, aimed at the mechanics of a golf swing, would have benefits for all athletes. Whether my clients swing a club, a bat, a racket or row a kayak and ride a bike, Pilates provides range of motion for any activity you do.

I’m certified to teach Pilates, Pilates for Injuries & Special Populations, and Barre Pilates.

Monday: Get a Pilates Body
Thursday: Barre Pilates

What would my life have been without Pilates? That I will never know, but I am so glad it is part of my life Here’s why….

It has so many benefits – the mind/body connection, its focus on form with function, and body alignment to name a few. I also appreciate how it recruits the deepest core muscles which helps clients do all of their favorite activities more effortlessly. Another added benefit is that I get to incorporate my ballet background and combine Pilates with certain ballet moves to challenge my students.

I have taught Pilates at the college level, along with clients ranging from their teens to their seventies. I use the Pilates props to bring more awareness of how to properly execute moves or to increase the challenge as well as precise cueing to ensure you feel results. I use different types of musical genres and routines to keep the class fresh, challenging, and motivating. Please join me and see what happens when you try Pilates on your body.

Friday: Morning Yoga
Tuesday: Slow Flow Yoga

It’s been over 15 years ago that I practiced my first yoga class. I was amazed at the movement, breath and peace of mind yoga has given me. Yoga can really help you let go of that tightness and stiffness in your body and head. Which has helped me develop mental acuity, inner strength and rid my body of stiffness.

I continue to stay on top of my trainings, and have taken over 500 hours of workshops, including Prana and Divine. Join me in my yoga practice. Looking forward to meeting you!

Monday: Lifestyle Yoga
Wednesday: Vinyasa Yoga

I attended my first yoga class decades ago. Although I had not established a regular practice, I knew I was drawn to it. Years later I faced a very serious health issue. I found myself devastated when the voice of a former yoga instructor was in my head saying “If you can breathe, you can do yoga.” I immediately began to move my body slowly and with care a little bit each day and found myself joyfully healthy and happy again. As a result of that experience I became completely dedicated to studying the wondrous effects of yoga and had a huge desire to share with others.

As a Senior Systems Analyst at BCBSM I watched my co-workers sitting in positions all day long creating imbalances and pain. I founded YoGeek Techniques and became an approved fitness provider for the BCBSM Wellness program.

I have been trained in multiple forms of yoga by YogaFit International; and am RYT-200 certified with Yoga Alliance – the international agency that oversees yoga standards and ethics. I have over ten years of teaching experience.

It is my hope that everyone give yoga a chance. It is truly a holistic Mind, Body, Spirit approach to living life healthy and thoughtful. No matter where we find ourselves on the spectrum of health and fitness, think of my classes as an invitation to come to the mat as you are – and we will take it from there together. Namaste.

Romina

Wednesday: Zumba

I am from a small town one hour from Mexico City. I went to college planning to work in television and ended up working in corporate communications where I met my husband. In 2008 we moved to the U.S. and our family now lives in Fenton.

I grew up dancing for fun, tradition, and culture. Everyone in Mexico dances and people in my hometown are often called ‘salseros’ because we love to dance salsa, my favorite rhythm.

I’ve practiced Zumba since 2000 when it started to become popular in Mexico. When I realized that Zumba was known in Michigan I became an instructor and started teaching basic Zumba in 2011.

Teaching Zumba has been an amazing way to build a community of friends, keep fit, and to make me feel at home while also sharing part of my cultured with everyone that attends my classes. I’m licensed to teach Zumba, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Strong by Zumba, Zumba Kids, Aqua Zumba, TRX and Les Mills Grit.

Jannah

Monday: Zumba
Thursday:  Strong Nation by Zumba

My name is Jannah! I am a singer, composer, music educator and confidence queen, certified to teach Zumba Fitness! I grew up here in the Fenton area and I teach music at A Joyful Noise Music Studio in Fenton and Expressions Music Academy in Troy, Michigan. I sing and play (and teach!) four instruments; piano, guitar, ukulele and clarinet. I graduated from Rochester College with a Bachelors of Science in Music Performance and Bowling Green State University with my Masters in Music Education. I also perform at music events all over southeast Michigan and worship lead at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham, Michigan.

Over the past year, Zumba has helped me lose over 50 pounds! I love how Zumba is a party disguised as cardio. I decided to get my certification and help others find their confidence and celebrate life in every class! I love motivating and inspiring every level of student (new and advanced) to let loose and have fun through the movement of Zumba! In my class, all bodies are beautiful, you are guaranteed to sweat, sparkle and shine while having a good time. I look forward to seeing you in class!
