The Fenton Lakes Sportsman’s Club is located on more than 70 acres of rolling countryside just north of Fenton, Michigan, the FLSC is one of the area’s best kept secrets. By exploring this website, you’ll find a place where you can enjoy the great outdoors, your favorite sport, and a great sense of community. The Club operates shooting ranges for members including a 24 hour accessible 6 lane indoor pistol range. The outdoor ranges offer 25, 50 and 100 yard shooting for Rifle, Pistol, Muzzle loaders and Shotgun. Archery, 3-D Archery, Axe and Knife Throwing facilities are available as well on the outdoor ranges.

The FLSC Clubhouse is available to rent for meetings, receptions, graduations, parties, luncheons, etc., with a 300 people maximum capacity. Included is the use of our outdoor pavilion from which many a wedding ceremony has been held over the years. One of the highlights of Fenton Lakes Sportsman’s Club is our 15 station Sporting Clays Course. A one-mile course located in a heavily wooded area of FLSC property, it is both challenging and enjoyable. The course is open to the public Saturday and Sundays beginning at 10am with the last line out at 2pm. A round of Sporting Clays is a great group activity with family, friends or even team building with co-workers. Please check the Fenton Lakes Sportsman’s Club website’s “calendar of events” before coming out to shoot. The Clays staff will post all weather-related closings on the calendar. Fenton Lakes Sportsman’s club offers a variety of training classes throughout the year available to Members and Non-Members. From Hunter’s Safety to New Gun Owners classes. Classes to train and certify you for a Concealed Pistol License right up to becoming an NRA Certified Instructor to teach these classes. Firearms safety and education is a priority at FLSC. All of our classes are led by NRA Certified Instructors and overseen by NRA Certified Range Safety Officers.

Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminar

Safety experts agree the single most important factor in surviving a criminal attack is to have a personal safety strategy in place before it is needed. The Refuse To Be A Victim® crime prevention seminar, a program of the National Rifle Association, is pleased to offer this easy-to-understand personal safety information at the Fenton Lakes Sportsman’s Club. This is NOT a self defense class. It has nothing to do with firearms.

Refuse To Be A Victim® is a seminar full of crime prevention and personal safety strategies you can use to develop your own safety plan. In just four hours you will learn about home, automobile, phone, technology, personal safety—and much more.

New Gun Owner Class

This course is designed to educate you on the components of a pistol and ammunition. Safety when operating a pistol. As well as the cleaning and care of a pistol. No previous training is required for this course. It is designed for first time owners even if you have never held a firearm before, anyone who has previous experience with firearms but would like a refresher, and those looking to learn more about pistol / firearm operation and safe handling before making a purchase.
Principles taught in class apply to all firearms, however primary focus will be on handguns. You do not need to own a gun to take this class. It may be prudent to take the class before purchasing a gun.

Course Pre-requisites:
None, other than you must be legally able to own or possess a firearm in the state of Michigan.

Course Goal:
To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a specific pistol model safely.

Course Overview:

  1. Introduction to Pistol Safety, Parts, and Operation
  2. Introduction to Ammunition and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
  3. Introduction to Pistol Shooting from the Benchrest Position
  4. Introduction to Pistol Cleaning, Storage, and Training Opportunities

!!!!! What Student Needs to Bring to Class!!!!!

  • A pistol registered in your name if you have one and 30 rounds of ammo. (NO magnum ammo – i.e. 357mag; 44mag; 357sig)
    Note: if using a pistol not registered in your name, the registered owner must transport and attend the entire class with the firearm. (Loaner pistols are available to students who have not yet purchased a gun.)
  • Eye and Ear protection (Loaners can be made available)
  • Note pad & pencil.
  • Ball Cap
  • A good attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Snacks/Water/Pop (optional)

New Gun Owner Class is for students ages 10+. Students under 18 must demonstrate sufficient maturity and MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Michigan Concealed Pistol License Course (CPL)

(NRA Class–Personal Protection In the Home)

This is NOT a beginner course—Beginners should take the New Gun Owner Class.

Course Pre-requisites: Completion of basic handgun training or equivalent experience.

Course Goal: To develop in the students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense.

Course Overview:

  1. Introduction to Defensive Shooting
  2. Basic Defensive Handgun Skills
  3. Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership, and the use of Deadly Force
  4. Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
  5. Selecting a Handgun for Self-Defense
  6. Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities
  7. Course Review and Examination

What Student Needs to Bring to Class:

  • A handgun in good working order.
    -Recommended are either double action revolvers or semi-automatics
    -Recommended minimum caliber is 38 special or 9mm.
    -NO magnum ammo allowed (i.e. 357 mag, 44mag, 357 Sig).
  • (2) speed loaders for revolvers or minimum (2) magazines for semi-autos.
  • Minimum of (100) rounds Ammo.
  • Ear & Eye Protection.
  • Ball Cap
  • Note pad & pen/pencil.
  • Optional Items
