According to recent studies, more than half of incoming college freshman are not prepared for college. While academic performance contributes to these statistics other factors play into college success, as well. This class is designed to help students understand what is expected of them in college and what they can expect as the transition into their new role in academia. Students will learn what resources are available for them through their college or university, as well as learn study skill, time management, professional communication, tips for socializing, understanding grades and courses, along with many other subjects that will focus on successful first year of college.

This course is taught by Cindy Kowall, who has worked nearly 10 years as an adjunct instructor for Concordia University, Cleary University, Delta College, Washtenaw Community College and Saginaw Valley State University. She has a BA in English with a secondary teaching certificate, MA in English Language in Literature and concentration in Composition and Rhetoric.
