Monday: Cardio Kick Boxing (returning Fall 2020)
Tuesday: Pound
I fell back into fitness nine years ago after welcoming twins. On a whim I took a group exercise class and loved it. I decided to take it a step further and become a certified Group Exercise Instructor, learning formats from R.I.P.P.E.D to Tabata to POUND. I loved it so much, I decided to pursue Wellness as a career. I graduated from Oakland Community College with a degree in Exercise Science and I’m currently pursuing my Bachelor’s from Oakland University in Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention.
In addition to teaching fitness classes at SLPR, I’m also a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist, as well as a Certified Health Coach at Genesys Athletic Club. I believe that in order to lead a fit lifestyle one has to eat healthy and well balanced, focus of making exercise fun and meaningful and practice Wellness in all areas of life.

Barre is an amazing way to slim and stretch your whole body; tough on the muscles, kind on the joints. This class is a ballet inspired workout, incorporating tiny, isometric movements even in the most forgotten muscles until they are completely fatigued. In my class we say ’embrace the shake’ as you feel the burn. This is how the muscles get that tone. Barre mixes Pilates, dance, and functional fitness training all while choreographed to a killer playlist! Do barre regularly and you will notice remarkable changes to your body.
As a dancer for 12 years it was easy for me to transition into group fitness. I fell in love with Barre when a studio opened in my town and I was ecstatic to try something new. That was three years ago. Barre is my go to workout and I’m certified in the Barre Intensity program.
Join me on Thursdays. We use a ballet barre, a few props and a mat for a full body toning session that’s a lot of fun too!!

Tuesday: 30 Minute Abs
Wednesday: 30 Minute Buns
It was over ten years ago when I discovered Pilates and every time I do it I’m reminded why I love it! It’s the workout my body really responds to. It makes me stronger and keeps my spine aligned. Pilates will improve posture and flexibility while strengthening the core. In my Tuesday and Wednesday classes we use an array of props to add variety to the workout that will target specific muscle groups. Thursday we use the stability ball and weights to focus on balance, core strength, and the muscles of the back.
While at Genesys Athletic Club, I taught a Pilates workshop for golfers and was inspired by how those exercises, aimed at the mechanics of a golf swing, would have benefits for all athletes. Whether my clients swing a club, a bat, a racket or row a kayak and ride a bike, Pilates provides range of motion for any activity you do.
I’m certified to teach Pilates, Pilates for Injuries & Special Populations, and Barre Pilates.

Wednesday: Pilates with Props
What would my life have been without Pilates? That I will never know, but I am so glad it is part of my life Here’s why….
It has so many benefits – the mind/body connection, its focus on form with function, and body alignment to name a few. I also appreciate how it recruits the deepest core muscles which helps clients do all of their favorite activities more effortlessly. Another added benefit is that I get to incorporate my ballet background and combine Pilates with certain ballet moves to challenge my students.
I have taught Pilates at the college level, along with clients ranging from their teens to their seventies. I use the Pilates props to bring more awareness of how to properly execute moves or to increase the challenge. I use different types of musical genres and routines to keep the class fresh, challenging, and motivating. Please join me and see what happens when you try Pilates on your body.

I started going to Yoga classes a few years ago and I really enjoyed the quieting of my mind along with a great stretch and some strengthening. What’s not to love? My daughter was about 5 at the time and always wondering what I was doing. She began doing Yoga with me and it proved to be a great bonding activity.
I attended Yoga teacher training with Rainbow Kids Yoga and became a certified instructor. Kids classes are very different than adult classes but the important piece is still moving the body and practicing mindfulness.
Family classes are great because it reminds the adults to have some fun and be silly while being mobile and active with their kids. My daughter often accompanies me to class and is a wonderful assistant! We love sharing our love of Yoga with others!

Monday: Zumba and Thursday: STRONG by Zumba
I attended my first Zumba class in 2012 and fell in love! Grooving to the beats of salsa, flamingo, and merengue music feels more like a dance party than a work out which is exactly what makes Zumba so fun.
The high energy classes are set to upbeat music and feature choreographed dance numbers. You don’t need to be a dancer to do Zumba! Just follow my lead and have a great time.
I absolutely love teaching Zumba classes. The reason is simple: Every class feels like a party! I am currently licensed to teach Zumba, Zumba Toning, Strong by Zumba, Zumba Kids AND Zumba Kids, Jr.
Come join me. I guarantee you will have a blast! “Ditch the Work Out, Join the Party”

Monday: Mind/Body Balance
Monday and Thursday: Zumba
I am from a small town one hour from Mexico City. I went to college planning to work in television and ended up working in corporate communications where I met my husband. In 2008 we moved to the U.S. and our family now lives in Fenton.
I grew up dancing for fun, tradition, and culture. Everyone in Mexico dances and people in my hometown are often called ‘salseros’ because we love to dance salsa, my favorite rhythm.
I’ve practiced Zumba since 2000 when it started to become popular in Mexico. When I realized that Zumba was known in Michigan I became an instructor and started teaching basic Zumba in 2011.
Teaching Zumba has been an amazing way to build a community of friends, keep fit, and to make me feel at home while also sharing part of my cultured with everyone that attends my classes. I’m licensed to teach Zumba, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Strong by Zumba, Zumba Kids, Aqua Zumba, TRX and Les Mills Grit.

Monday and Thursday Zumba

Tuesday: Chair Yoga
I climbed on to my yoga mat in 2003 and have been practicing yoga ever since. I have participated in many workshops to enhance my yoga practice and expand my knowledge in this arena. Participating in a yoga practice is a very calming experience which can increase your physical strength, flexibility and provide you with inner peace.
I also believe yoga is medicine for the soul. It nurtures your mind, body and inner wisdom and I am honored to share my yoga journey with those around me. My passion is to share the positive effects of yoga and how it can enhance your physical well-being.
I continue to learn from my students and teachers and I am grateful for every experience and each person I meet in my yoga journey. Please join me for Chair Yoga and experience the benefits this practice has to offer.

Tuesday  Chair Yoga

Tuesday 11:00 am – 11:45 am

I’ve been teaching yoga in the Fenton area for over 20 years. I am certified in multiple styles and offer an eclectic approach to Hatha yoga for my students. As a teacher trainer for Yoga Ed I help others learn how to lead elementary and teen yoga classes.
I also serve as Mindfulness Program Manager at the Crim Fitness Foundation and lead both teacher training and elementary classroom lessons.
My personal studies have included mindfulness techniques with both Thich Nhat Hanh and Jon Kabat-Zinn. My classes reflect this and stress the importance of the breath, body awareness and correct alignment.

Monday: Yin Yoga 10:30am
Hi, My name is Rick Coscia.
I have a passion for Yoga. The year after I retired in 2014, I fell down the stairs and broke both arms and my neck. After all the medical equipment was off, I found I could barely walk or get around. I tried many ways to get better: physical therapy, the gym, acupuncture, and Reiki massage. All of them helped to some degree. But what really helped me was Yoga.
I improved my flexibility, balance, and endurance. I liked it so much I completed teacher training certification. For the past year I’ve been training clients on Chair and Yin Yoga. I’ve been humbled by the improvements I’ve seen in my clients. I encourage anyone to do yoga, but especially those folks who don’t feel they are flexible enough. Or say they don’t have the balance or feel they don’t have the strength or endurance. Chair Yoga works!
I’m looking forward to meeting you in class!

Tuesday: Vinyasa Yoga
My name is Megan Battaglia and I am a 200-hour registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. I attended my first yoga class in 2014 as a college freshman. I was an ex-dancer just looking to maintain flexibility and strength. After a few classes I realized that yoga was not only offering me physical benefits, but it was also helping to decrease my stress levels as those crazy college deadlines approached.
Four years later I am finally able to share this practice and its amazing benefits with others! I truly believe that yoga can change one’s mind and body alike! My goal as an instructor is to enable others to reap the amazing benefits of yoga. Please join me at SLPR, I would love to have you.
